The UAE Artificial Intelligence Office, in collaboration with Google Gemini, has introduced a complimentary one-year Google AI Plus subscription for university students in the UAE, expanding the government’s efforts to equip young people with advanced digital and artificial intelligence skills.
The UAE Google Gemini subscription for university students is designed to help students use AI more effectively in education, research and content creation while encouraging responsible use of emerging technologies.
Eligible university students aged 18 and above who are registered in the UAE can sign up for the offer free of charge. Registration must be completed before December 31, 2026.
UAE expands access to AI tools for students
The initiative forms part of the UAE Government’s broader strategy to strengthen digital capabilities among younger generations and prepare students for an economy increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
Officials said the programme is intended to move students beyond simply using AI applications and towards developing a deeper understanding of how the technology can be applied responsibly in learning and research.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, emphasised the UAE leadership’s focus on preparing future generations with the knowledge, skills and opportunities needed to contribute to the country’s continued development.
According to Al Olama, the next phase of AI adoption requires students to understand not only what AI tools can do, but also how to use them responsibly and effectively.
He said access to advanced AI models and tools can encourage continuous learning, exploration and innovation while giving students greater opportunities to develop new ideas and solutions.
What does the Google AI Plus student plan include?
The Google AI Plus subscription provides students with a range of AI-powered services designed to support academic work, research and creative projects.
At the centre of the programme is the Gemini app, which gives students access to Google’s latest AI model and capabilities.
Students can use the tools to support activities such as organising information, summarising study materials, working with references and preparing research.
The programme also includes Gemini Notebook, which enables students to interact with academic materials and sources. The tool can help students create summaries, explore information and engage with learning content through interactive audio features.
These capabilities are intended to make it easier for students to work with large amounts of academic information while developing new approaches to studying and research.
AI tools for images and video
The UAE Google Gemini subscription for university students also includes access to AI-powered tools for creating images and videos.
This gives students additional options for developing presentations, educational content, creative projects and other digital materials.
The inclusion of content-generation tools reflects the growing role of generative AI across education and professional industries. Students can gain practical experience with technologies that are increasingly being incorporated into workplaces and creative industries.
However, the UAE Government is also placing emphasis on responsible use, particularly when AI is applied to academic work and research.
Students receive 400GB of storage
Another benefit included in the Google AI Plus plan is 400GB of storage.
The additional storage can be used for academic documents, research materials, projects, media and other digital content, giving students more space to manage their educational work.
Combined with Gemini and other AI-powered services, the package is intended to provide students with a broader digital environment for learning, research and content production.
Training programmes to support students
The collaboration between the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office and Google will also include a series of virtual and in-person training programmes.
These sessions will focus on helping university students understand how to use Gemini and Gemini Notebook effectively for studying and research.
Training will also cover responsible AI practices, reinforcing the government’s focus on ensuring that students understand the opportunities and limitations associated with artificial intelligence.
The programme is therefore not limited to providing students with free access to technology. It also aims to develop practical skills that can help young people use AI more effectively in their academic and future professional lives.
Who is eligible for the UAE Google Gemini subscription?
The offer is available to registered university students in the UAE who are aged 18 or older.
Eligible students can register for the Google AI Plus plan at no cost for one full year, provided they complete their registration before December 31, 2026.
Students can access the offer through the official registration link provided as part of the initiative.
The programme follows a previous university student initiative that attracted strong participation, prompting an expansion of the programme this year to reach a larger number of students across the Arab world.
Part of the UAE’s wider AI strategy
The new student offer is part of the “AI for All” initiative launched by the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office and Google in 2024.
The initiative aims to broaden access to artificial intelligence technologies, strengthen AI-related skills, support research and encourage the development of solutions and applications that benefit different sections of society.
The latest university programme extends that objective into higher education by giving students direct access to advanced AI tools while providing training designed to improve their understanding and application of the technology.
The move also reflects the UAE’s wider efforts to establish itself as a global centre for artificial intelligence development and adoption.
Preparing students for the future economy
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming an important part of education, business, research and the wider economy. Providing students with early access to advanced AI systems can help them develop familiarity with technologies that are expected to play an increasingly important role in their future careers.
The UAE Government’s approach combines access to technology with education and training. This is particularly important as universities and employers continue to assess how AI can be integrated into learning and professional environments.
Through the UAE Google Gemini subscription for university students, eligible students can gain practical experience with AI-powered research, information management and content-generation tools without paying for the Google AI Plus subscription during the one-year period.
The programme also reinforces the UAE’s emphasis on responsible AI adoption. Rather than positioning artificial intelligence simply as a productivity tool, the initiative seeks to help students understand how AI can be used thoughtfully in education and research.
With registration open until December 31, 2026, the initiative gives eligible university students across the UAE an opportunity to access Google’s AI ecosystem, develop practical digital skills and prepare for a future in which artificial intelligence is expected to become increasingly embedded across industries.
